Dear Readers,
We are so excited to share with you our latest collaboration, Bunny in the Middle.
This story really began many years ago—when an illustrator met a copywriter, got married, moved to a little cottage near the sea, and had two daughters.
Then, a third daughter arrived. And as new babies tend to do, she turned their little world upside down for a time. But as the years went on and everyone began to settle into life as a family of five, they recognized that perhaps the biggest change with their growing family was that their “little” had become a “middle.” And that the middle was a pretty cool place to be!
The oldest daughter was cautious and kind. The youngest . . . daring and dear. Naturally, the oldest got to do things first, like ride a bike and head off to school. But the younger daughter enjoyed a few perks, too. She always had her big sister by her side to help and to play.
As a middle, she was “not too small for the big stuff,” like riding the giant yellow school bus to school. And “not too big for the small stuff,” like playing knights and dragons in her tiny toy castle.
Being a middle wasn’t always easy. Sometimes she wished she was bigger, or littler, and sometimes she wanted to simply be herself and “go her own way.” But mostly, middle was marvelous, because in the middle, “you are loved all around.”
We created Bunny in the Middle to celebrate the unique (sometimes challenging), but ultimately, very special experience of being in the middle. Middle kids are often sensitive, thoughtful, and brave. They’re the peacemakers, the risk takers . . . the dear ones.
At least, that’s how we see our middle. And so we wrote a book to celebrate her—and middles everywhere. We hope that you’ll want to read it and share it with the marvelous middles in your life!
